Spatially-modulated microbeams (SMM) is a new technology development project using spatial light modulators and high-speed machine vision to create arrays of tens to hundreds of holographic optical tweezers, each capable of 5-axis otical force clamp control.  The holographic tweezers will be integrated with spatially-modulated structured illumination to provide confocal visualization, ablation, photoinactivation, and patterned photobleaching.  The SMM platform will be capable of performing high throughput assays of cellular mechanotransduction by manipulating and visualizing the mechanical environment of cells in culture.
